Kait Payne.: Luck? No. →
kaitmpayne:
I hate when people call me lucky. Every single time someone says, “You guys are so lucky!” I have to fight saying, “No, you know what we are? We are patient and forgiving and you giving all that credit to luck is a huge disservice to everything we’ve worked for.” I hate when they tell me I’m lucky because my kid is well behaved and smart, do you think those just sprout up overnight? That they’re just born heathens or polite? She’s smart because we work with her, she’s well behaved because we pay attention to her even when she isn’t. Today I saw a status of this girl I know who was excited because her kid just learned how to use the DVD player at one and a half and now he can watch his show on repeat, she won’t even have to bother taking 30 seconds every half hour to hit a few buttons for him. Then she said that she just wishes he could learn how to talk. Well, fucking pay attention to him! Teach him some words. I’m not lucky. I’ve paid the piper. We’ve put up with our fair deal of bullshit and somehow made it out the other end okay. Don’t put that on luck. People say I’m lucky that Gabe’s not a douchebag or a deadbeat. I set a certain standard, and when he didn’t live up to that I left. We work so well together because we taught each other our expectations for one another through trial and error. We are lucky for our health, but our happiness isn’t dependent on luck. We did that.
this. SO MUCH THIS. i love the honesty and the insight into your relationship with Gabe and Scar. Sometimes I think people forget that they actually control the outcome of their lives.
